Every audiophile music lover knows of the legendary sound of Koetsu phono cartridges from decades past. Those old enough to have experienced Sugano's Koetsus retain the memory of a musical experience unequaled. Few were privileged to own and enjoy a Koetsu. Many of the converted searched out second and third Koetsus, assuring a long, cherished relationship. Now, in analog's Golden Renaissance and through the efforts of Sugano's sons, Koetsu phono cartridges are again available. To fully appreciate Koetsu, we must know Yosiaki Sugano, artist, musician, swordsman, calligrapher, business executive and creator of the world's most renowned phono cartridges. In post war Japan, Sugano rose to prominence in one of Japan's largest industrial companies, yet continued to pursue his passions, now including hi-fi.

Koetsu Tiger Eye Platinum Moving Coil Cartridge
|
|
As with all the Platinum series of Koetsu cartridges, it uses a set of very tightly matched Platinum-alloy magnets.
For such delicate work, Koetsu Japan specially commissioned a craftsman to handle the task. The final design was chosen after assessing many prototypes.
Koetsu Japan had long held the belief that the best way of eliminating interface issues between the stylus and cantilever is to build the complete assembly out of a solid piece of material. They decide to pursue this belief by crafting the stylus/cantilever assembly out of a solid piece of diamond.

Koetsu Coral Platinum Moving Coil Cartridge
|
|
The Koetsu’s Coralstone Platinum phono cartridge is a work of art. The body of this cartridge is designed to resemble a piece of coral. The coils are wound from almost 100% pure copper.
Spectacular! The Koetsu Coralstone Platinum Cartridge possesses incontrovertible seductive power, body and presence. A presentation so convincing it literally swallows you into the music. The Coralstone's rendition of acoustic music and vocals glows in such a realistic manner it is hard to believe it is recorded music. Detail is prodigiously fused into a coherent musical event.

Koetsu Bluelace Moving Coil Cartridge
|
|
Blue Lace
The pinnacle of cartridge design can be found in a Koetsu stone body. The body is machined from a block of high quality stone. Each block is carefully selected for natural grain and polished to a very fine finish.
Internally, only the most tightly matched silver sheathed copper coils and cores are used. Rare platinum magnets allow the stone body cartridges to fully create the ethereal sound on which Koetsu has earned its reputation.

Koetsu Black Goldline MC Cartridge
|
|
Black Goldline
For many, the Koetsu journey starts with the Black Goldline. Its warm and full bodied sound makes it an excellent choice for all genres of music.
"From the clarinets in the opening to the deeply textured final chord of the first movement, the Koetsu's performance was impossible to ignore: This wasn't just pretty sound in place of the music but sound as a part of the music." Art Dudley, Stereophile

Koetsu Blue Onyx Hand Made Moving Coil Cartridge
|
|
Koetsu, beyond doubt the most revered name in moving-coil cartridges, has always valued the
innate characteristics of the materials used in the bodies and cantilevers of its designs. The
designers realised that the materials can tune the sound of the cartridge with an ineffable quality
that cannot simply be dialled in electronically.
Whether a type of wood or mineral or metal, every material used by Koetsu must go through the
most rigorous testing procedures for purity and musical quality. The company’s legendary hand-
wound coils and meticulously carved stone and wood bodies transcend the boundaries of art and
science.

Koetsu The Signature Moving Coil Cartridge
|
|
The Red Signature (Platinum) looks very much like the Red Signature.
The similarities however, stop there. The body of the Platinum model is made from aged Rosewood which gives it a darker color tone. The greatest difference though, is inside.
The coils of the Pro IV are made of 6N copper wire, painstakingly clad with a silver jacket. The magnets are made of the proprietary (and very expensive) Platinum alloy which accounts for the higher price.

Koetsu Urushi Vermillion Moving Coil Cartridge
|
|
The Urushi’s come in 3 cosmetic finishes Gold (Wajima), Black (Tsugaru) and Vermillion.
The Gold (Wajima) finish encrusts the whole cartridge body with gold flakes and is the most difficult to produce.
The Black (Tsugaru) starts with a base piano-black finish and has bands of gold speckle along its sides.
The Vermillion is finished in a less striking reddish lacquer colour.
The Urushi cartridges are probably the most striking in the whole Koetsu lineup because it encompasses the traditional art of Japanese lacquerware in the production of the cartridge body. Even without reproducing music, the Urushi is itself, a work of art.
