After a long history of repairing and servicing LS3/5a's from within both the professional and amateur arenas, Stirling Broadcast became involved in the manufacture of LS3/5a loudspeakers after purchasing and reselling the bankrupt Rogers stock.
Once an LS3/5a License had been obtained from the BBC, Stirling Broadcast commissioned the manufacture of new T27 and B110 drive units from KEF and reintroduced the LS3/5a to the market, to enthusiastic reception. Shortly afterwards Stirling Broadcast began its path of innovation in the LS3/5a world by introducing higher quality crossovers, referred to as 'SuperSpec', and thin-walled, screw-back cabinets. Most recently Doug Stirling of Stirling Broadcast has released the Stirling AB-2 Bass Extenders an improved version of the original AB-1.

LS3/5a V3 Stand Mount Loudspeaker
Designed by the BBC in the early seventies for use as an outside broadcast monitor
Stirling has been making a V2 LS3/5a for a number of years now with an 8 ohm nominal impedance which is a lower than the classic 15 Ohms of the original design but makes much more sense in the context of today's relatively high powered amplifiers. The low sensitivity of the design (83dB) was chosen in order to provide better bass, so it needs a bit of power to achieve real control and the 8 Ohm impedance actually helps in this regard.

Introducing the new Stirling Broadcast SB-88 Domestic Monitor Loudspeaker. Stirling Broadcast is proud to present another outstanding loudspeaker design by Derek Hughes. The LF and HF units are the same custom units as used in the Stirling Broadcast LS3/6.

Stirling Broadcast BBC LS3/6 Reference Loudspeaker
Stirling Broadcast's new BBC LS3/6 Reference Loudspeaker. This new loudspeaker is a 3-way loudspeaker designed for Stirling Broadcast by Derek Hughes to be as close to the original BBC LS3/6 specification as was possible with modern components, and built under licence from the BBC. The BBC LS3/6 license was only obtained after submission to the BBC for rigorous examination to ensure adherence to the original specification. The original BBC LS3/6 Loudspeaker was designed as a monitoring loudspeaker for outside broadcast use, as with the smaller LS3/5a speaker. Once the design was finalised Rogers became one of the first companies to produce this complicated design.
