Tugela77ft Swan Luxury sailing yacht, cruising world wide
When this yacht was due for some major refurbishment in the winter season of 2008/09, the owners decided it was time to update their rather tired AV system on board. They wanted High definition Video throughout the cabins and Saloon along with high quality lossless audio through the whole boat and out on deck. Featuring the following products:
Total Project cost in excess of £35,000
The new system is based on Living Controls multiroom system. In all the major areas of the boat are colour LCD touch panels that give users of the system instant access to movies, music, TV, DVD and the ships iPod. The display on these panels is colour coordinated to match the ships décor, and even show an image of the yacht when they switch to standby, a nice touch for such a high end project.
In the Saloon, a large wide screen LCD is housed in the back of one of the sofa areas on a LCD lift, along with a “jukebox” style movie and cd server. The Studio 6 server is mounted in an air-conditioned compartment in such a fashion as to be able to withstand Trans Atlantic crossings and yet still easily be accessed in order for the client to simply pop in a new DVD or CD when required. Because the server was to be used in such a harsh environment a bespoke upgrade was also made to the unit changing its hard drive’s to solid state, meaning no moving parts to be bashed around no matter what the seas through up.
In the Master Cabin the owner can listen to the system through the ceiling speakers while watching his favourite film, or to add that extra bit of privacy we have supplied him with a pair of Senheiser wireless headphones. This way the rest of the crew need not worry when he is watching Titanic!
The complete system can also be controlled with Phillips Pronto wireless remote controls, This way when you are lying in bed, it takes just the touch of a button and you could be watching your favourite film or scrolling through the library of on board tunes. The Living Control equipment is so versatile that the Captain can even control it from his PC or iPhone while up on deck or on shore…
