The power amplifier is the final component in the signal chain before the loudspeakers. It is the workhorse of a hi-fi system. It takes the low-level signal from the pre-amplifier and converts it to a powerful signal to drive the loudspeakers. It has a low-level input to receive the signal from the preamplifier, and terminals for connecting loudspeaker cables.
Because of the power amplifier's unique function, it differs from other components in size, weight and use. High-quality power amplifiers are usually large and heavy. Moreover, the power amplifier is the component you don't need to touch and adjust. Consequently, power amplifiers are often placed on the floor near the loudspeakers rather than in an equipment rack.
STEREO POWER AMPLIFIER:

Parasound Z Amp V3 Power Amplifier
Ultra Compact Power Amplifier. 2 x 45W - 8 Ohms. Ideal For Multi-Room Use
The ‘Zamp’ was the first Z Series product to be developed, and like other Z Series models, is barely larger than a good book, yet it provides performance and features that belie its size and cost.
Now available in Mk III version, the two-channel ‘Zamp’ continues to be the installer’s first choice for discreet amplification.

Quad II - Classic 15W Valve Mono Power Amplifiers
II-classic 15W Valve mono power amplifier A faithful reproduction of the original, the new Quad II-classic offers audiophiles the chance to recreate the spirit and atmosphere produced from one of the most famous amplifiers in audio history. The original Quad II was first launched in 1953, designed by Peter Walker. At the time, many of his contemporaries were also producing good quality valve amplifiers. The Quad II looked, in comparison, very simple and unassuming, but its performance was far beyond that which its diminutive dimensions might suggest. The property which set the Quad II amplifier apart from other amplifiers of the time was its output stage. It was arranged such that the cathode coupled circuit emulated the performance of triode operation, but with the size and efficiency characteristics of pentode operation. It was this breakthrough that ensured the Quad II was to remain in continuous production until 1970. Peter’s circuit, notably the design of the output transformer, has become the stuff of legend amongst electronics engineers. Studied and analysed by the finest minds in the industry, the elegance and coherence of the design is still regarded as a reference today.

Quad II - Forty Valve Mono Power Amplifiers
II-forty 40W Valve mono power amplifier The Quad II-forty retains the elegance of the 1950s Quad II but with a level of sophistication, a build quality and finish rarely seen on any product old or new. The chassis has been substantially increased in size to accommodate the much larger components, all of which are hard wired by hand following a similar topology to the original. The modern listener demands a higher output than the fifteen watts of the original Quad II. The new Quad II-forty uses larger output valves, KT88s instead of KT66s, and a more robust power supply utilising a 5U4G rectifier valve. The input valves are now military specification 6SH7s instead of EF86s.

EAR 890 Power Amplifier
EAR890 Parallel Push Pull 8 Valve Power Amplifier The 800 series of amplifiers from EAR has received widespread and consistent acclaim from users and reviewers the world over. However, feedback from some quarters suggested that there was a need for an amplifier with similar sonic prowess but just a little more power.
Taking as a starting point the circuits used in the 834 integrated amplifier, Tim de Paravicini has addressed that need by producing the 890 power amplifier. Using the innovative KT90 valve from EI, he has been able to offer 70W of clean Class-A audio from the same chassis as the 834. One of the few new valve designs of the last 30 years, the KT90 draws on the strengths of the EL509 valve (as used in many EAR amplifiers) and is capable of sustained high power operation with great reliability. Two pairs per channel are hardly stressed in the EAR 890.

Naim NAP 500 DR
Our design brief for the NAP 500 required an amplifier that could drive any load down to 2 Ohms for prolonged periods, deliver over 100W into 8 Ohms and sound - at the very least - as good as our reference at the time, the NAP135.
Naim has always understood the importance of reducing supply-induced intermodulation distortions and mains harmonic electrical noise from an amplifier, and has always used regulated supplies in its premier amplifiers. It was considered likely that improvements in these areas would yield further large gains in performance. Each channel of the NAP 500 includes ten stages of local regulation. To reduce interference from the mains supply further, the transformer and first stages of the power supply are in a separate enclosure (the same size as a Supercap), which provides twelve raw d.c. supplies for the power amplifier. Hence, the NAP 500 system consists of two boxes, a stereo amplifier and a separate power supply.
