Bob Marley & The Wailers - Legend LP
Even as greatest hits packages go, Legend is an utter gem. Every song is inspired, in a class of its own, whether the real version of "I Shot the Sheriff", the hymnlike "No Woman, No Cry" or the sheer joy of "Jamming". Even allowing that Marley never wrote any bad material, Legend is still the crème de la crème, the heart and soul of the Jamaican people packed into one five-inch compact disc. He was unique and the message of this record, more than any other, is that he died far too soon. --Chris Nickson

Beck - Morning Phase LP
Introspective 2014 album, reminiscent of Beck's 2002 classic Sea Change, with many of the same musicians backing him once again. Includes singles "Blue Moon" and "Waking Light".

Natalie Merchant - Motherland LP
Natalie Merchant's Motherland album (2001) is dedicated to the victims of the 9-11 plane crashes, which occurred just days after recordings were finished.
Experienced producer and artist T. Bone Burnett brings his expertise to the table, which pays off in terms of its aural expression and positioning Merchants songs in one coherent, excellent album. Her voice has deepened and her lyrics are socially conscious and intelligent, as always. Musically, each song stands on its own and fits seamlessly into the collection of tracks that make up Motherland.

John Legend rose to fame in the mid noughties, after making a name for himself as guest musician for Lauryn Hill, Slum Village and Kanye West among others. When Kanye started his own label G.O.O.D. ("Getting Out Our Dreams"), Get Lifted would be the first release to see the light.
Resembling a style made popular in the '70s by Sly & The Family Stone, Curtis Mayfield, Quincy Jones and Bill Withers, Legend knows his chops and delivers an all-time classic R & B album ready for the new millennium.

Leonard Cohen - Ten New Songs LP
During the 9 years prior to the release of Ten New Songs (2001) the legendary songwriter Leonard Cohen spent most of his time in a Zen monastery, obsessively rewriting and polishing the lyrics for this austere collection. Ten New Songs is arguably Sharon Robinson's record as much as Cohen's as she co-wrote all the songs, plays most of the instruments and accompanies Cohen's gloomy croak with her own crooning.

Daniel Lanois - For the Beauty of Wynona LP
Producer, musician and songwriter Daniel Lanois got his big break when asked to co-produce U2's The Unforgettable Fire and their subsequent 1987 Grammy Award winning album The Joshua Tree. Also Bob Dylan called in Lanois for production duties on 1989's Oh Mercy [MOVLP659].
Lanois is an accomplished guitarist in his own right, which he displayed on his second solo effort For The Beauty Of Wynona, released to critical acclaim in 1993. Lanois delivered a breezy and warm album, carefully crafted songs with beautiful arrangements, rhythms and soundscapes. This one will definitely grow on you.

Graceland (1986) is the seventh studio album by American singer-songwriter Paul Simon. He planned a trip to Johannesburg in the new year with Roy Halee, where he spent two weeks recording with South African musicians.
The album features an eclectic mixture of musical styles, including Pop, Rock, A Cappella, Zydeco, Isicathamiya, and Mbaqanga. Simon created new compositions inspired by the recordings made in Johannesburg, collaborating with both African and American artists.

Jaco Pastorius / Jaco Pastorius LP
Jaco Pastorius was widely acknowledged for his skills as an electric bass player. He died in 1987 at age 35 following a violent incident at a Fort Lauderdale drinking establishment.
This self-titled album was Pastorius' solo debut and was originally released in 1976. As living legend Pat Metheny puts it in the liner notes on one of the re-issues of Pastorius' albums:
'Jaco Pastorius may well have been the last jazz musician of the 20th century to have made a major impact on the musical world at large. Everywhere you go you hear Jaco's sound; from the latest TV commercial to bass players of all stripes copping his licks on recordings of all styles, from news broadcasts to famous rock and roll bands, from hip hop samples to personal tribute records, you hear the echoes of that unmistakable sound everywhere.'
