Harry’s music carves out a genre all of it’s own. Combining an eclectic range of influences from Soul, African Rhythm and Contemporary classical arrangements to modern pop, he has created an emotive and grand sound that encompasses an array of genres.
The beauty of music is in its variety - each artist drawing on their own unique influences which are reflected in their musical creations. Naim Records artist Harry Jay-Steele is a master of blending his eclectic range of influences.
Music has always been an integral part of his life - he began honing his craft at the age of nineteen with a move to London to study at Goldsmiths University.
Having played with various bands but never quite finding the musical direction he was wished for, he focused more on developing his own sound. Inspirations in this quest included Soul, African rhythms, contemporary classical and modern pop, with African artists Lionel Loueke and Tinariwen cited as major influences.
Harry’s debut single ‘Reach You’ truly embodies his distinctive vocal and guitar work - describing it he says: “I wrote the song on a loop pedal with my guitar initially but it really evolved into a song on the computer. It’s a song about a journey, the fears, joy and sorrow that can create in someone - I'll leave it there for other people to take away what they get from it lyrically. Musically the song is inspired by a mix of things – electronic pop, house, early disco, afro-beat.”
