Sonic Precision & Sophisticated Styling
Inspired by Martin Logan's ultra-high-end electrostatic loudspeakers, the Motion® Series was created to provide stunning sound for your ultimate-performance home theater or stereo. Martin Logan's dedicated in-house engineers carefully crafted the Motion Series to create an extremely affordable and compact product line that seamlessly blends our exquisite Folded Motion™ transducers with powerful, compact bass technology. The result is a smooth, refined sound with stunning dynamic range and jaw-dropping clarity.
Engineering Genius
What makes the Motion Series sound so amazing? Martin Logan's dedicated in-house engineering team started by utilizing and refining the most advanced, compact technologies and combining them with innovative engineering. The result is an emotionally engaging sound that rivals (and most times trounces) traditional loudspeakers of similar size and price. Although our engineers won't reveal exactly how they make the sausage, here are a few technologies that help give Martin Logan Motion Series such a unique sound:
Folded Motion™ Tweeter
Never settle. That's exactly what's on the minds of our engineers when they develop every MartinLogan speaker. Just take a look at the innovative Folded Motion Tweeter. This exotic tweeter—you know, similar to other tweeter technologies found on ultra-high-end speakers—helps gives Motion speakers their fantastically realistic highs. Lightning fast transient response, combined with a large surface area (8-times that of a typical 1" dome tweeter) creates clear, highly dynamic and precise sound.
This is one sweet tweeter.
The Folded Motion Tweeter works by moving air (which creates sound) perpendicular to the folded ridges of the diaphragm, similar to how an accordion works. This extremely low mass diaphragm "squeezes" air and requires almost 90% less excursion than the typical 1" dome tweeter, which drastically minimizes distortion while providing a lightning fast response time. The increased surface area also provides a wide, yet controlled sound dispersion to create a realistic and carefully etched sound stage.
Motion® i Compact Speakers
Inspired by the clarity and detail of MartinLogan’s ultra-high-end electrostatic loudspeakers, Motion 2i, 4i, 6i, and 8i feature exquisite Folded Motion tweeters and powerful bass technology in compact and affordable packages.
Folded Motion Tweeter
Key to performance is the lightning fast response of the tweeter’s light-weight diaphragm combined with a large surface area (much larger than a typical one-inch dome tweeter) which together achieve a smooth, refined sound with stunning dynamic range and jaw-dropping clarity—certain to inspire envy in audiophiles and non-audiophiles alike. Precision Vojtko™ crossover topology features custom air core coil inductors, low DCR steel laminate inductors, and polyester film and low DF electrolytic capacitors for a seamless sonic presentation.
Engineered Curves
Flexible installation options allow table top or on-wall installation of all four speakers. The Motion 2i and 4i bookshelf speakers can also mount upside down to facilitate placement high on a wall. The Motion 6i and 8i mount horizontally or vertically around a wall-mounted flat screen television.
Martin Logan engineers were faced with a daunting task—create a compact speaker with low-end bass reproduction found in speakers much, much larger. After many sleepless night and a myriad of prototypes, they created the Cascading Bass Reflex Port. This brilliant solution allows a long tuned port, which is folded over itself (think of a trombone's tuning arm) to be compacted and squeezed into the Motion 4i. The result is amazingly detailed low bass that can play at high volumes with minimum distortion—all thanks to the elegantly simple cascading fold that slows down and controls the air motion of the bass waves.
